Fairy Isles to Whisky Isle

Time to Reef

Rosie was complaining loudly, that she couldn't steer the boat any more and that we were broaching.  I explained that I had to take a picture first.  Priorities are important at sea.

Jura Ahead

Another windy day, force 4 to 6, for our sail from gentle Loch Sween to Wild Jura, with dark clouds tumbling over the mountains.

Evening Drinks, Craighouse Bay, Jura

The visitors mooring buoys in Craighouse Bay are well spaced and are good value for £12.00 a night.  Outer islands (with wild goats) protect the bay from the East, although all the weather is from the hills in the West at the moment.  We sat in the cockpit and sipped an evening drink before escaping the cold wind below (about 10 minutes on deck was sufficient).  On the radio, the Southerners are still wittering on about a heat wave.  Very amusing.

Old Harbour, Craighouse

Next day we rowed ashore, against a still strong breeze, to the neat little harbour.  Here there is all you need: distillery, hotel, shop, restaurant and friendly people.  Once ashore the temperature was much warmer and we soon had our rucksack full of surplus clothing.  A local man suggested that we leave our stuff in his front garden, while we walked to the ancient cemetery, which we gladly did.

Cill Earnadil Burial Ground

I am tempted to climb into the beautiful local hills for a long walk.  Two drawbacks:  There are ferocious blood sucking ticks everywhere and it is deer hunting season.  Added to which, there are reported to be adders everywhere!  I write this blog instead; much safer.
